About the Brand
In 1832 Scientist William Winsor and artist Henry Newton established their partnership at the famous residence of 38 Rathbone Place, London. In 1835 Winsor & Newton developed the first glycerine based, moist water colours changing the history of outdoor painting.
Winsor & Newton is built on a blend of art and science. Their materials are developed by a team with a background in chemistry, who manufacture quality colours and materials.
1841 Queen Victoria awarded Winsor & Newton their first Royal warrant and the endorsement has been received ever since. Today Winsor & Newton remains by Appointment to HRH the Prince of Wales.
A few months before his death, Henry Newton sold the business to the newly incorporated firm of Winsor & Newton Ltd which included members of both families amongst the shareholders. The Newtons were employed until the late 1970's.
In 2007 Winsor & Newton celebrated their 175th Anniversary and continue to enjoy the high regard of the world art community for their history of professional quality art materials.
