About the Brand

NEEF is an Australian brand of quality art supplies, specialising in paint brushes, artist quality oil and watercolour paints and mediums, and essential studio accessories. The NEEF range of traditional and modern artist products is known around the country for quality and attention to detail in manufacturing.

Walter Neef was born in Tanzania to a family of coffee farmers. He was brought up in Stuttgart, Germany and returned home in 1945 when the war ended. He settled in Australia in 1947 and made furniture to make ends meet.

After seeing the quality of his woodworking, a university lecturer asked Walter to make some easels for the students in his art class. Walter jumped at the chance, he formulated some basic designs and continued to produce the finest easels available in the country until his retirement.

Guenter Neumann took over NEEF in 1964 after working with Mr Neef since 1961. He introduced some more easels and has continued to build the range of quality art supplies under the Neef brand as a trusted wholesaler in Australia.
