Golden OPEN Acrylic Paint Landscape Set 9pc

An excellent outdoor palette that allows artists to produce the wide variety of hues, shades and tints encounted in nature. Since OPEN Acrylics remain wet far longer than other acrylics, they resist skinning on the palette during long painting sessions in the studio and outdoors. These colours offer excellent permanency and lightfastness, and are made with the highest quality pigments. There are no fillers, extenders, opacifiers, toners, or dyes added. 

OPEN Acrylics are a slow-drying paint with a slightly softer consistency than our Heavy Body paints. The increased working time of these paints expands their range to include more traditional techniques once only possible with oil paints. Thick applications can dry extremely slowly, so we recommend artists only use OPEN Colours thinly (< 1 mm). Drying time can also be accelerated by mixing OPEN with faster-drying acrylics like our Fluid and Heavy Body colours. The slow-drying capability of OPEN Acrylics also makes the suitable for some printmaking techniques.

About the Brand

At the height of the depression in the 1930s, Sam Golden joined his uncle Leonard Bocour as a partner in 'Bocour Artist Colors'. Leonard and Sam produced hand-ground oil colours for artists. The shop on 15th Street in Manhattan became a hangout for artists from the 1930s through the early 1950s. Artists such as Mark Rothko, Helen Frankenthaler and Jackson Pollock would go to the shop to visit with Leonard, talk to Sam and to purchase paint.

'Golden Artist Colors, Inc.' began in June of 1980 in a 85 square metre renovated barn. Sam, his wife Adele, son Mark and daughter-in-law Barbara Golden, along with partner Chuck Kelly, founded a new company that would embody Sam's dedication to professional artists.

With such a rich history in North America, Golden has grown enormously, it has become a popular brand for artists around the world and is a highly regarded provisioner of fine art products.
